Geometric Expansion

March 28th, 2008

Technological growth is almost always geometric and not linear. One industry’s previous inventions tend to spawn new developments in another as when medical technologies for example, profit from the previous developments in the electronic defense industries. A specific example is that of Thermal Imaging System for cardiac surgery which is based on Thermal Coronary Angiography or TCA, the technology of which was originally developed for military uses like night vision and heat-seeking surveillance.

Many benefit from the improved accuracy in angiographic imaging including the physician, the patient, medical administrators and insurers. A created device invariably spins off other developments during application of its use. Benefits may be passed on in different forms but is welcomed just the same for the good it does to mankind.

The Israeli Technology

March 25th, 2008

Israel counts its human capital as its most important resource. This would include scientists, engineers and programmers who migrated in the 1990s from the former Soviet Union. Many of them excel in math, physics, material sciences and medical electronics which were put to good use as close cooperation between medical research institutions and industry developed.

Israeli universities and research institutes established their own research authority whose main thrust is to assist professors in finding, applying for and administering grants and funding for their research. At present, there is no area of medicine in which devices developed in these institutions have not made significant contribution. The research authorities decided to form an alliance to pool and strengthen their technological and administrative resources.

Customer-focused Websites

March 21st, 2008

Many websites came and went without anyone noticing because they have not been made with the customer in mind. There is a need to find out the target market for one’s product and work on web visibility to attract and maintain visitors. A target market is made up of the groups of people that are considered the potential customers. This market can be segmented according to demographics, psychographics and behavioral differences.

It is quite possible that a product is suitable for different target markets. These can be prioritized according to which have better opportunities, size or potential growth. An in-depth understanding of the different target markets will ensure an advantage over the competitors.

Expanding Your Site

March 20th, 2008

Site expansion is an ongoing process of updating content and telling people about such content. Relevant content and consistent presence creates credibility with search engines and individual users. It is always a wise move to keep up with search engine changes without necessarily getting obsessed solely with it. The information is best used as a guide and not as the “be all” of all your efforts towards the creation of a site.

A successful site is not all about strategies. It is about real, useful and timely information that no user can afford to ignore. It is about putting such information where it can seen and appreciated. If you should at all strategize, strategize these two aspects.

Making Use of Hygrometers

March 18th, 2008

Hygrometers are easy-to-use tools for measuring the amount of humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere that is caused by condensation and evaporation. Humidity affects human comfort and health as well as material possessions. It plays an important factor in heat stroke, heat exhaustion, drying out of furniture, moisture stains, swelling and mold.

The most simple and common way of measuring humidity is through the use of hygrometers consisting of wet and dry bulb psychrometers. Another type which is the mechanical hygrometer uses an organic material such as human hair which either expands or contracts depending on the surrounding humidity. This is the simplest explanation for a bad hair day during hot and humid season.

Personal Locator Beacons

March 17th, 2008

Satellite technology has enabled faster search and rescue during severe weather conditions. Severe weather events can strike at any time. It is not unlikely to be trapped in them even during vacations or any occasions in which it is least expected to happen. In fact, it is usually the vacationers, hikers, campers and climbers who find themselves in such a difficult situation.

A series of satellites in operation are designed to “search out and rescue”. A personal locator beacon can send messages to satellites in case of a severe weather distress call. It is able to function even in the most remote areas or location. No one can really predict for sure when flashfloods, blizzards and tornadoes would occur but a personal locator beacon gives the victims a better chance of survival.

The Universal Remote Dilemma

March 15th, 2008

Almost everyone could readily identify with the dilemma of having too many remote controls to operate each and every electronic product that came with each. This is the very problem that a universal remote seeks to address as it is supposed to mimic the functions of each remote control. However, finding the right universal remote is quite a challenge due to the increased features of the present flat-panel TVs with built-in tuners, hard disk video recorders and pay-TV boxes, not to mention the long list of brands and models in which they come.

The first generation universal remotes performed well in basic commands but encountered snags when used in the latest gear. Remote controls that have the ability to learn certain functions of another are a worthwhile feature to look for. This would ensure the usefulness of the remote for an extended period of time.

Confidentiality on Online Communication

March 9th, 2008

The risk of having personal and business information land into the wrong hands is quite real in the online world. In fact, most, if not all preventive measures were designed in response to a particular attack on online security. The secure shell or SSH is one such measure, which is basically a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged over a secure channel between two computers. Confidentiality and integrity of data is maintained through encryption and proper authentication.

SSH is commonly used in logging into remote machines and executing commands. It likewise supports tunneling, forwarding arbitrary TCP ports and XII connections. Files are transferred with the use of the associated SFTP or SCP protocols. A revised version of the protocol, the SSH-2 has been introduced and became a proposed Internet standard.

The Mobile Phone Gaming Potential

March 3rd, 2008

When people need to kill a few minutes of their time waiting for transactions to be accomplished or transportation to arrive, a game machine in one’s pocket would be quite handy. It is even handier when it is incorporated into a gadget which almost everyone carry around anyway- the mobile phone. Games have been incorporated in digital cameras and MP3, so why not a phone?

Emerging technologies are enabling more innovative games to spark renewed interest in mobile phone games. There is the GPS for global treasure hunts, the cameras for augmented reality games and touch screens for better controls. What would probably set apart the mobile phone game from the others is the possibility that games can be used as a social tool that allows people to communicate while playing.

Games can be played below the YouTube Video Player. Enjoy!
